The institute

A fuller understanding of aging.

The Open Institute of Age and Aging connects medical expertise, research and education around a shared question: how can a longer life remain a meaningful, independent life?

Medicine, knowledge and the life course.

Gerontology asks how aging unfolds. Geriatric medicine asks how to support the person experiencing it. Our institutional work brings these perspectives into the same conversation, alongside prevention, rehabilitation and professional education.

The institute’s public program covers healthy longevity, functional capacity and clinical peptidology. It also includes community projects and digital approaches to communicating knowledge about age and aging. These interests are connected by a concern for the person behind a measurement or a diagnosis.

A connected approach.

Scientific knowledge becomes useful when its context is clear. A biological mechanism, a clinical assessment and a person’s own priorities answer different questions. Our approach keeps these perspectives connected without treating them as interchangeable.

Education is part of this work. Clinicians, educators, families and community organizations need language and methods that can travel beyond specialist settings. The aim is informed dialogue: between disciplines, between generations and between research and everyday practice.

A new digital perspective.

ProAge Atlas adds a research software initiative to this wider field of interest. It explores source-linked evidence, biomarker interpretation and AI-assisted research workflows. Its development is described separately from the institute’s clinical and educational work.

The laboratory pages explain the questions being explored, the sources that inform them and the evaluation work still needed. They offer an entry point for researchers and potential collaborators who want to understand the methods in detail.
